Story:

The Brusly High wrestling team had an impressive showing in their first home meet of the regular season on Saturday, November 14, 2015.

The Panthers had four wrestlers win medals by placing in the top three spots, with one gold, two silvers and one bronze, in the eight team, round robin tournament, aptly named the Brusly 8.

Junior Austin Franklin, who had finished just out of the medals last week at the Rummel Invitational, bounced back in a big way in front of the Brusly home crowd, winning the 138 pound weight class, pinning Rummel's Dawson Mire at 4:57 in the match to win the gold medal. Franklin's five and zero record in the tournament also impressed the coaches in attendance, who voted the junior the outstanding wrestler in the lower weight classes.

Brusly also had three other medal winners, with junior Richard Hunter placing second in back to back weeks in the 182 pound weight class. Joining him on the medal stand this week were sophomore David Kent, who got second place in the 113 pound weight class and sophomore Brandon Young placing right behind his teammate Hunter in third place at 182.

Sophomore Patrick Herrington continued to wrestle well, placing 5th in the 195 pound weight class after placing fourth last week. Freshman Ethan Cascio wrestled in his first tournament and looked good, placing sixth in a competive 126 pound weight class. Sophomore Alex Spencer and senior Mason Boyd showed improvement from last week's tournament while sophomore Hunter Dix and freshman Creighton Gremillion got their first experience wrestling this season.

Up next for the Brusly wrestling team, the Panthers play host a four-team quad meet on Saturday the 21th against St. Amant, Baton Rouge High and Holy Cross of New Orleans. The tournament starts at nine a.m.
