Story:

The Brusly wrestling team, even with five individual medalists, finished a disappointing fourth place as a team at this weekend's Brusly Invitational. De La Salle High School of New Orleans ran away with the 18-team tournament, scoring 210 points, easily winning first place. Second place was South Plaquemines with 141 points and third place was North Vermillion High School with 136.5 points.

The Panthers did have some high points individually, with junior Richard Hunter and sophomore Brandon Young both winning gold medals in their respective weight classes. Hunter won the 160 weight class, defeating Kaplan's Trae Case by pinfall at the 5:38 mark in the third period. Young won the 195 weight class, upsetting top seed Lane Joubert from Basile, by pin at 3:15 in the third period. Young was also named the outstanding wrestler in the upper weight classes.

Brusly also had three other medal winners, with junior Austin Franklin getting second place in the 132 pound weight class, losing by points, 9-5, to top seed Raekwon Thomas from De La Salle. Senior Owen Mabile also won the silver medal after losing in the finals to De La Salle's Ryan Hamrick. Sophomore David Kent won third place after fighting back through the consolation bracket to defeat North Vermillion's Jourdan Theall by pinfall in just 49 seconds to win the bronze medal.

Up next for the Panthers wrestling team, a dual meet against the Zachary Broncos at Zachary Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. and then the Louisiana Classic (formerly the Lee High Invitational) at Baton Rouge Community College this weekend.
